Battery removal & replacement

Note: The radio/CD player/auto-changer unit fitted as standard equipment by Citroën is equipped with an anti-theft system, to deter thieves. If the power source is disconnected, the audio unit will automatically recode itself as long as it is still fitted to the correct vehicle. If the unit is removed it will not operate in another vehicle.
Note: Prior to disconnecting the battery, wait at least two minutes after switching off the ignition.

Battery

1 The battery is located on the left-hand side of the engine compartment.
2 Prior to disconnecting the battery, close all windows and the sunroof, and ensure that the vehicle alarm system is deactivated.
3 Lift off the battery cover front section, followed by the rear section (see illustrations) .

Reconnection

6 Reconnect the battery leads, positive first and negative last. Smear petroleum jelly on the terminals after reconnecting the leads.
7 With the battery reconnected, switch on the ignition and wait at least 1 minute before starting the engine. This will allow the vehicle electronic systems and control units to stabilise.
8 Lock and unlock the tailgate to restore correct operation of the lock mechanism.
9 Reprogram the audio unit station presets, and reset the parameters of the multifunction display.
10 Re-initialise the ‘anti-pinch’ function on the electric front windows as follows:
  1. Press the control switch to open the window fully.
  2. Press the switch to close the window. It will start to close and then stop.
  3. Press the switch again until the window closes completely.
11 On models with a sunroof, re-initialise the sunroof mechanism as follows:
  1. Turn the switch to the maximum opening position.
  2. Keep the control switch pressed in for a further 1 second after the sunroof reaches the maximum opening position.

Removal

12 Disconnect the battery leads as described above.
13 On diesel models, remove the air deflector, located in front of the battery box, by turning the plastic retainer through 90°. Withdraw the air deflector from the front of the air inlet ducting.
14 Depress the plastic locking catch on the side of the battery box to disengage it from the base of the battery (see illustrations) . Lift the battery upwards slightly, disengage the lower locating lugs and remove the battery from the battery box.
