Ford Focus 2005 - 2011  | 1.6 TDCi Air filter change

Caution: Never drive the vehicle with the air cleaner filter element removed. Excessive engine wear could result, and backfiring could even cause a fire under the bonnet.
1 The air filter element is located in the air cleaner assembly on the left-hand side of the engine compartment.
2 Remove the plastic cover (where fitted) from the top of the engine.
3 Disconnect the wiring plug from the mass airflow meter, and slacken the clamp securing the air outlet hose to the filter cover (see illustration) .

4 Undo the bolts, and lift the filter cover from place (see illustrations) .

5 Note which way round it’s fitted, then lift the air filter element from the housing (see illustrations) .

6 Wipe clean the inner surfaces of the cover and main housing, then locate the new element in the housing, making sure that the sealing lip is correctly engaged with the edge of the housing.
7 Refit the filter cover and tighten the bolts securely.
8 Reconnect the outlet hose and the wiring plug where applicable. Tighten the hose clamp securely, then refit the plastic cover over the engine.
