  • time 5 to 45 minutes
  • difficulty 1
1 The air filter is located at the rear of the engine
2a Unscrew these three engine cover bolts...
2b ...and lift off the cover
3a Locate the air intake duct where it is secured to the bonnet lock platform and remove these three bolts...
3b ...locate and remove these two screws securing the intake duct to the manifold...

4 Remove the oil filler cap, and (as a precaution against any screws falling inside) cover the opening, or stuff it with clean rag
5a Remove the five 5mm Allen screws securing the air cleaner cover and lift it out. The two rear screws, at the corners, are awkward to reach, because of limited access (see below)
5b Three of the five air filter cover screws are easy to see...
5c ...but there’s another on the passenger rear corner...
5d ...and the other rear corner screw needs an extension to reach
6a Lift off the air filter cover...
6b ...then unhook and remove the filter element
7 Wipe clean the interior surfaces of the cover and base
8 Fit the new element, engaging the locating peg, then refit the cover, tightening the Allen screws securely. Refit the oil filler cap
9 Refit the air intake duct, engaging it first with the air cleaner cover, then secure with the three bolts and two screws
10 Refit the engine top cover with the three bolts to complete
