The original tyres have tread wear safety bands (B), which will appear when the tread depth reaches approximately 1.6 mm. The band positions are indicated by a triangular mark on the tyre sidewall (A)
Alternatively, tread wear can be monitored with an inexpensive device known as a tread depth indicator gauge
Tyre shoulder wear is caused by underinflation, incorrect wheel camber (worn suspension parts), or hard cornering
Tyre centre wear is caused by overinflation

Roadside wheel change

Warning: Do not change a wheel in a situation where you risk being hit by other traffic. On busy roads, try to stop in a lay-by or a gateway. Be wary of passing traffic while changing the wheel – it is easy to become distracted by the job in hand.
The spare wheel and tools are stored in the luggage compartment. Raise the floor covering, and lift out the jack and wheel changing tools from the centre of the wheel.
Use the wire hook to remove the wheel bolt caps.
Use the wheel brace to slacken each wheel bolt by half a turn.
Use the special adapter when slackening the locking wheel bolt.
Locate the jack on firm ground below the reinforced point on the sill (don’t jack the vehicle at any other point of the sill), then turn the jack handle clockwise until the wheel is raised clear of the ground.
Unscrew the wheel bolts (using the adapter provided) and remove the wheel.
Fit the spare wheel, and screw in the bolts. Lightly tighten the bolts with the wheelbrace then lower the vehicle to the ground.
Securely tighten the wheel bolts in the sequence shown then refit the wheel trim/ hub cap. Stow the punctured wheel back in the spare wheel well. Note that the wheel bolts should be tightened to 120 Nm (89 Ibf ft) at the earliest possible opportunity.
Note: If a temporary ‘space-saver’ spare wheel has been fitted, special conditions apply to its use. This type of spare wheel is only intended for use in an emergency, and should not remain fitted any longer than it takes to get the punctured wheel repaired. While the temporary wheel is in use, ensure it is inflated to the correct pressure, do not exceed 50 mph, and avoid harsh acceleration, braking or cornering.
