OnDemand step-by-step maintenance & repair BETA

Volvo S40 2007 - 2013  | 2.0D Checking oil level

  • time 1 minute

Locate the engine oil dipstick
Withdraw the dipstick and wipe clean with a paper towel
Look at the end of the dipstick. The oil level should be comfortably between the maximum and minimum points, ideally two thirds. Reinsert the dipstick fully and withdraw. Check the oil level
If you need to top up, locate the oil filler cap
To open the oil filler cap, turn anticlockwise
Carefully add the oil, mopping up any spills with a paper towel. Add about a cupful at a time and recheck the dipstick level. Add more oil if needed. Remember, it can take 30 seconds or so for the oil to work its way through the engine, so allow for this
Always replace the cap and dipstick securely
