Chrysler

Walter Chrysler founded the Chrysler Corporation in 1925. As well as building its own cars, Chrysler acquired Fargo trucks and the Dodge Brothers Company. Come 1928, the corporation also established the DeSoto and Plymouth marques. Chrysler was an innovative company, building the first mass-produced four-wheel hydraulic brakes, and a wheel designed to keep a flat tyre on the rim. Post-war the expansion and innovation continued, with Chrysler the first company to have production fuel-injection system as an option on some models. Come the 1960s the downturn began, and despite partnerships with various companies, including Mitsubishi, the company weakened until it was consumed in a merger with Daimler-Benz in the 1990s. The brand was continued, but was badly affected by the financial crash in 2000, and it was bought by the Fiat Group in 2014. Chryslers continue to be sold in the US and some European markets. At Haynes, we have an extensive range of Chrysler repair manuals and online procedures available for professional mechanics and DIY car enthusiasts. We can give you all the help you need.
