Peugeot 3008 Mk2 (2016-2024) common problems

Peugeot 3008 driving

Moving with the times – everybody’s got to do it. Sit still and you’re falling behind.
That’s what Peugeot found with the 3008, because the Mk1 model was a flexible MPV-style car. However, the world was gravitating towards off-road-style vehicles, so for the second-generation car we focus on here, it turned the car into a funky and rugged-looking SUV. And it never looked back, because people couldn’t get enough of it.
And that was despite there being a number of Peugeot 3008 common problems to sort out.

What recalls has the Mk2 Peugeot 3008 been subject to?

The 3008 has been a regular visitor to Peugeot workshops over the course of its life:

  • For a start, 1225 early cars were recalled for a software update because their engine emissions weren’t as low as they should have been.
  • A faulty charging cable temperature sensor could cause the cable itself to overheat, with a risk of fire.
  • Talking of overheating, the diesel particulate filter could get too hot at time, with a risk that it could crack.
  • Faulty towbar welds and dodgy battery connections forced more recalled notices, and then some rear suspension fixing bolts were found to be the wrong specification.

What common problems does the Peugeot 3008 (2016-2024) have?

A knocking noise when you’re driving along is never a good thing. It’s the sort of thing that is only ever going to get worse – and rapidly. But that’s what happens with the front suspension of the Peugeot 3008, and faulty shock absorber supports plates are the issue.
If you happen to see traces of grease or brake fluid around the wheels of your car, you need to check out the fault, which lies with the brake calipers, quickly.
So that’s stopping sorted, but what if your Peugeot 3008 doesn’t start in the first place? This can be traced to a faulty starter motor, which will need to be replaced.
And it turns out that stopping isn’t sorted after all, because numerous owners have reported a problem that manifests itself in the form of a loud droning noise whenever the brake pedal is pressed.
Finally, Peugeot 3008 driveshaft problems are also a thing.

Does the 3008 Mk2 have suspension problems?

It’s fair to say a decent number of owners have complained about the front suspension of their Peugeot 3008 generating a knocking noise.
This is the sort of thing that only ever gets worse, so you need to locate the source of the problem and sort it quickly. Well, we’ve done the first part for you – it’s the upper shock absorber mounts that are faulty, and the only way to sort the issue is to replace them.
Your Haynes 3008 AutoFix contains technical drawings that will be vital as you remove and replace the front suspension strut.

Are your Peugeot 3008 Mk2 brakes leaking?

Leaks are never good, but leaks from your brakes are especially un-good. You need to sort this quickly.

Peugeot 3008 Mk2 brake problems are reasonably common – it is known for having problems with brake calipers that can leak grease or brake fluid onto the caliper pistons.

The first solution is to remove and replace the brake pads (a procedure covered in your Haynes 3008 Autofix), and clean up the caliper, pads and cylinders, then refit everything and drive the car. If no grease or fluid reappears – job done.

However, if it does, you’ll need to replace the entire caliper with a new item, and the technical drawings in the Haynes 3008 Autofix will help you along the way.

Are Mk2 Peugeot 3008 starter issues a thing?

There can be few things worse for a driver than turning the key or pressing a button, only to be greeted by the sound of silence.

It can sometimes be battery-related, but in the case of the Peugeot 3008 Mk2, the starter motor can also be a common source of the fault.

The starter motor will need to be replaced with a new item, so you’ll need to fire up your Haynes 3008 Autofix, which provides a general feature on how to replace the starter motor in many cars, plus how to disconnect and reconnect the battery.

What’s with the Peugeot 3008 Mk2 front brakes?

We’ve already talked about how faulty brake calipers can cause brake fluid to leak onto the road, but the Peugeot 3008 Mk2 front brakes are also the source of a different issue.

In this problem, owners have reported that their front brakes make a loud droning noise whenever they press the brake pedal.

The issue appears on only cars fitted with the 304mm front brake discs. These need to be replaced on both sides of the car, along with the front brake pads, but your Haynes 3008 Autofix can help you to get through the issue with its general instructions.

Why won’t your Peugeot 3008 Mk2 move?

Contact. Ignition. Clear. Engine start. Engage gear. You’re off and running. Except you’re not. You’re stationary, and there’s an ominous knocking noise from somewhere up ahead. Put the car in neutral and the noise stops.

The issue is a faulty driveshaft, and either the left or right driveshaft is equally vulnerable.

You’ll need to replace the driveshaft, and your Haynes 3008 Autofix can guide you through a general procedure on how to do this.

Bear in mind, too, that you’ll need to renew the gearbox drain plug seal, and the attendant driveshaft seal.
