Buick Riviera (1986 - 1993)

The Buick Riviera was significantly downsized for its seventh generation, as were its sister cars the Cadillac De Ville, Cadillac Eldorado, Cadillac Seville, and Oldsmobile Toronado. The Riviera was powered by a 142hp 3.8-liter V6 motor, which was linked to a four-speed automatic transmission. It drove well and was well equipped, but the smaller dimensions and absence of V8 power had a catastrophic effect on sales. Even a 1989 facelift that added 11 inches to the length of the car didn’t help, so it was killed off (albeit temporarily) in 1992. At Haynes, we have an extensive range of Buick repair manuals and online maintenance procedures available for professional mechanics and DIY car enthusiasts.
