Volkswagen Passat 1998 - 2005  | 1.8 Air filter change

1 At the specified intervals, the air filter element should be replaced with a new one
2 On all models, the air filter is housed in a black plastic box mounted on the inner fenderwell on the right side of the engine compartment
3 Pull up on the trim cover to remove it...
4 ...then detach the intake duct from the air filter housing
5 Disengage the four clips...
6 ...then lift up the housing and remove the filter element. Wipe out the inside of the air filter housing with a clean rag. Note: Some models are equipped with a strainer at the bottom of the filter housing. If your vehicle has this strainer, remove the screw, lift out the strainer and clean it with compressed air
7 While the cover is off, be careful not to drop anything down into the air filter housing
8 Place the new filter element in the air filter housing. Make sure it seats properly in the groove of the housing
9 Installation is the reverse of removal
