The Chevrolet Monte Carlo was a two-door coupe that first saw the light of day in 1970. The first four generations were rear-wheel drive and had a V8 engine under the hood. These engine started from 5.7 liters and got as big as 7.4 liters. There were three transmissions available – two- and three-speed automatics or a four-speed manual, although the manual was dropped for 1972. The car was tweaked throughout its life to reflect current styling trends and emissions legislation. The car was discontinued in 1988, although it would be reborn in 1995. At Haynes, we have an extensive range of Chevrolet repair manuals and online maintenance procedures available for professional mechanics and DIY car enthusiasts.
