Pontiac J2000 Sunbird (1984 - 1985)

The second-generation Pontiac Sunbird was launched in 1982. This front-wheel-drive car replaced the old rear-drive Sunbird, and was eventually available as a two-door coupe and convertible, three-door hatchback, four-door sedan and five-door station wagon. It was a sister car to the Buick Skyhawk, Cadillac Cimarron, Chevrolet Cavalier and Oldsmobile Firenza. Under the hood lay a choice of 1.8-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engines, with or without turbochargers attached. All drove the front wheels through a four-speed manual transmission or a three-speed automatic. A five-speed manual was an extra-cost option. Alterations throughout the car’s life were minor, consisting mainly of redesigned fascias and tweaked engines. This generation of Pontiac Sunbird was discontinued in 1988. Haynes has an extensive range of Pontiac repair manuals and online maintenance procedures to suit professional mechanics and DIY car enthusiasts.
