Buyer’s guide: the Chevrolet Cruze story

The Chevy Cruze was available in a sedan body style and with transversely mounted four-cylinder engines.

All models are equipped with an electronically controlled Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI) system. The 1.4L four-cylinder DOHC engine is turbocharged, while the 1.8L engine is normally aspirated.

The engine transmits power to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual transaxle or a six-speed automatic transaxle, via independent driveaxles.

The front suspension is a MacPherson strut design. The rear suspension employs two arms connected by a stamped-steel axle that pivots on bushings on the underbody, a Watts linkage, and a shock absorber and coil spring at the rear of each arm.

The rack-and-pinion steering unit is mounted behind the engine on the front suspension subframe, and is power-assisted on all models by an electric speed-proportional power-steering system.

All models are equipped with power-assisted front disc and rear disc or drum brakes, with an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) as standard equipment.
