Mat Armstrong DIY paint booth

YouTube highlights this month

We love YouTube and all it offers car fans here at Haynes. In fact we've got our own channel that's chock-full of step-by-step videos that'll help you carry out popular maintenance jobs on various models. Check it out and subscribe here and don't forget to hit the notification bell to be informed when we upload new content.

Car Wizard

This Tacoma Needs a Clock Spring!

You probably already know that Haynes Manuals show you how to remove your car’s steering wheel so you can get to the clockspring.

What does a clockspring do? For the uninitiated, it allows your steering wheel’s buttons (for the radio volume or cruise control, for example) to operate while the wheel is being turned. In other words, it enables an electrical connection between the powered items on and within the steering wheel and the vehicle's electrical systems.

In this video, the Car Wizard traces a fault code to the connection within this Toyota Tacoma pickup's clockspring, so he shows what's required to get to it. Can it be repaired, though? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.

Mat Armstrong

$300 DIY paint booth vs $30,000 Nissan GTR

You’re reading this at Haynes.com, which means you’re a sensible DIY-er who knows their limits. So when your car or bike needs a rather substantial respray you’re likely to send it off to a professional bodyshop.

But what if you could set up a spray ‘booth’ at home for only $300? Would you be tempted to give it a try? No, we wouldn’t be persuaded, either.

Mat Armstrong is braver, and finds a second-hand inflatable booth on Facebook Marketplace for his rebuilt Nissan GTR. What could possibly go wrong?

RocketMan

New Bikes!

Had your eye on a new pair of wheels? This round-up highlights the latest arrivals from Aprilia, BMW, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Triumph and many more.

All are slated for a 2024 launch, so some are already on the road, while you'll have to wait a few more months for others.
