The second-generation Volkswagen Transporter appeared in 1967, but the model we focus on here are the 1972-onwards models, that are also known as the ‘Late Bay’ model. The Transporter Mk2 had a one-piece windshield, and was bigger and heavier than its predecessor. At the rear lay a 1.7-liter flat four engine, which produced 66hp. It drove the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox or a three-speed automatic. From 1975, this engine had fuel injection as standard. At Haynes, we have an extensive range of Volkswagen repair manuals and online maintenance procedures available for professional mechanics and DIY car enthusiasts. Our VW Transporter repair manual is here to help you through every stage of servicing or fixing your car.
