The Ford Ranger was launched in 1983 and was intended to offer space, strength and practicality in a more economical package. As such, it was available with a range of smaller four-cylinder engines, although top-end models had the option of a 2.9-liter V6. Both manual and automatic transmissions were available. In 1986, a Super-cab version that had more space behind the front seats was also offered. In 1989 the second-generation model appeared, with anti-lock brakes. Regular models had the choice of manual or auto gearboxes, but Super-cab models were automatic only. A new 4.0-liter V6 was also offered. The second-generation Ford Ranger was replaced in 1993. Haynes has an extensive range of Ford repair manuals and online maintenance procedures to suit professional mechanics and DIY car enthusiasts. Our Ford Ranger repair manual will be able to help whether you're servicing or repairing your car.
