BMW F650 GS Dakar (2001 - 2007)

The Dakar from BMW’s F650 series was made specifically for off-road biking. The bike was produced from 2001 and its name was a tribute to BMW rider Richard Sainct who won the Dakar Rally in 1999 and 2000, and later in 2003. Fundamental differences to other bikes in the series include a larger front wheel of 21 inches. Longer suspension forks were also added to improve off-road handling, as well as a larger screen, a variation in mudguard arrangement and hand guards. Servicing requirements – outlined in our detailed F650 GS Dakar repair manual – should take into account amendments in 2004 including a return to the dual spark ignition.
