The Triumph Motor Company is a British automotive manufacturer that was founded in 1885 and currently under the ownership BMW (though not in production). Triumph originally began their trade importing and selling bicycles, before moving onto manufacturing their own bicycles by 1889. It wasn’t until the 1930s that the company’s name was changed to Triumph Motor Company, when it focused upon high-end car production with an expensive price tag. This was a strategic move to avoid competing with larger automotive brands that produced for the mass market. The popular Spitfire originally had a 1147 cc four-cylinder engine, with the Spitfire 1500 receiving a 1998 cc six-cylinder engine. The TR7 was also a popular model, and featured a 1998 cc four-cylinder engine. At Haynes we have a selection of Triumph repair manuals available, which is perfect for the classic car owner looking to carry out their own full body repairs and engine upgrades.
