YouTube highlights this month

We love YouTube and all it offers car fans here at Haynes. In fact we've got our own channel that's chock-full of step-by-step videos that'll help you carry out popular maintenance jobs on various models. Check it out and subscribe here and don't forget to hit the notification bell to be informed when we upload new content.

2024 Bennetts British Superbikes: The final two laps of the season!

You don’t have to be a bike fan to appreciate the incredible talent on offer in this three-minute clip. It covers the last two laps of the 2024 BSB season at Brands Hatch, with Kyle Ryde and Tommy Bridewell tussling for the lead.

We're not going to spoil it for you if you don't know the result, but if this doesn't put a smile on your face, we're not sure what will - it was an epic battle until the final corner!

No wonder British Superbikes has a reputation for quality racing, with the victor winning by just 0.296 seconds.

Will it start? Not when it’s damp!

Edd’s trusty tow car, an L322 Range Rover, needs to pass an MoT test before he can use it to trailer a friend's Ferrari project back to the UK from the Continent.

The trouble is, the Range Rover isn't going to pass in its current state. It needs a new headlight bulb. It also refuses to start when the weather’s damp, and Edd suspects a design flaw could be causing the starter motor's electrical contacts to corrode, so he’s ordered a new unit and 12V battery. Plus a new key fob.

Who Approved This and Why Is It Still Being Made?

This is an interesting video that explains when some car makers started using rubber timing belts instead of chains, but its main focus is on wet belts – those that are lubricated by the engine oil.

We recently featured a Haynes customer who changed such a belt on his Ford B-Max, with the help of his manual. So the job is do-able for the home mechanic but it's time consuming, which is why garages charge the earth to do it for you (we'll be publishing a Martynn’s Tips blog on this in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for that).
