Buyer’s guide: Ford Transit Custom
The Ford Transit Custom covered by this manual was introduced in the UK in December 2012 and continued in production until 2018 when it was replaced by an updated version. Versions are available on a long or short wheelbase chassis.
The Transit is available with 2.0 and 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engines, in a wide range of power outputs. The engines are DOHC 16-valve units, featuring the latest design of direct injection common rail fuel system. The models covered in this manual are available in front-wheel-drive configuration, with the engine and transmission mounted transversely at the front.
All models are equipped with a 6-speed all-synchromesh manual transmission.
Front suspension is fully independent on all models, with a beam axle, supported on semi-elliptic leaf springs employed at the rear.
The dual-circuit, servo-assisted braking system has discs all round. ABS, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) are fitted as standard, for extra safety when braking in emergency situations.
A wide range of standard and optional equipment is available within the Transit range, including power steering, air conditioning, remote central locking, electric windows, electronic engine immobiliser and supplemental restraint systems.
