YouTube Highlights: Edd China explains air-con, engine out and weld-tastic

Edd China air-con

Our monthly pick of the best YouTube videos

We love YouTube and all it offers car fans here at Haynes. In fact we've got our own channel that's chock-full of step-by-step videos that'll help you carry out popular maintenance jobs on various models. Check it out and subscribe here and don't forget to hit the notification bell to be informed when we upload new content.

Here’s another of our latest videos, a 'short' on 8 common sources of car leaks:

Edd China

Air Conditioning 101

Who doesn't love watching Edd China working his magic on a tired old motor? He's great at explaining how things work, which is why this video on a typical air-conditioning system is our first pick.

Air-con tech has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years, with kit becoming smaller and therefore lighter and using less refrigerant. Here, Edd and Denso's Richard Groot explain how components have changed over time.

Twin-Cam

Pulling the Engine Out of my Austin Metro

It's fair to say that Twin-Cam's Ed Westby is a bit of a Metro nut. And why not? Some of us here at Haynes have owned them (Rob's first two cars were Metros!), so we get the appeal.

However, not all is well with this one's diff, so in this video Ed's hoiking out the engine so that can be sent off for repair.

Soup Classic Motoring

From rusty Sprinter to custom Camper Van

Here's something a bit different. George is converting this Mercedes Sprinter van into a motorhome so he can use it to tow a Lotus Esprit around Europe, among other things.

This vid is part of a playlist, so check that out if you want to see the whole build, but this one uses stop-motion animation to show you the story so far. It makes one thing all too obvious: there's masses of welding involved!
