Toyota RAV4 models were available in 3- and 5-door bodystyles. The inline 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine used in these vehicles was equipped with electronic fuel injection. The engine drove the front wheels through either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. On 4WD models, drive to the rear wheels is through a propeller shaft, rear differential, and two rear driveshafts. Suspension is independent at all four wheels, MacPherson struts being used at the front end and trailing arms, control arms, coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers at the rear. The brakes are disc at the front and either drums or discs at the rear, and some models are equipped with ABS.
