Does NOT cover Syncro or features specific to specialist bodywork/camper conversions.
The VW Transporter covered in this manual is the last of the rear-engined flat four models. The application of water cooling to this venerable engine design enabled it to serve for the best part of another decade. The water-cooled models are quieter and more powerful than their air-cooled forebears, but otherwise the two versions are very similar. Body styles available as standard are Pickup, Van and Minibus (Caravelle). Numerous specialist conversions, mostly to camper vans, are in existence. Maintenance is not particularly difficult, but the layout of some items will not be immediately familiar to the owner who has only had experience of conventional frontengined vehicles. At Haynes, we have an extensive range of Volkswagen repair manuals and online maintenance procedures available for professional mechanics and DIY car enthusiasts. Our Volkswagen Transporter repair manuals are here to help you through every stage of servicing or fixing your car.
