Changing the wiper blades on your vehicle is one of the most important things you can do for safer driving, and yet also one of the easiest. Even if you can hardly change a light bulb you should be able to replace the wiper blades on your car in a few minutes. They should be replaced whenever they begin to leave streaks, or every 6 months.
Note: Depending on where you live, you may be able to replace your wiper blades once a year before the rainy season. If you live where it may rain year round, replace them every six months.
Wiper blade inspection and replacement (every 6 months)
-
The windshield wiper and blade assembly should be inspected periodically for damage, loose components and cracked or worn blade elements.
-
Road film can build up on the wiper blades and affect their efficiency, so they should be washed regularly with a mild detergent solution.
-
If the wiper blade elements are cracked, worn or warped, or no longer clean adequately, they should be replaced with new ones.
-
Lift the arm assembly away from the glass for clearance, depress the release lever, then slide the wiper blade assembly out of the hook in the end of the arm (see illustrations) .
- Attach the new wiper to the arm. Connection can be confirmed by an audible click.
