The seventh-generation Mercury Cougar was launched in 1989, at the same time as its sister car, the Ford Thunderbird. At launch there was no V8 engine. Instead it had a 3.8-liter V6, available with and without a supercharger. There was a four-speed automatic gearbox or a five-speed manual. However, the supercharged model’s sales were not stellar, so in 1991 it was replaced by a 5.0-liter V8. This engine lasted until 1994, when it was replaced by a 4.6-liter V8. The seventh-generation Mercury Cougar was discontinued in 1997. Haynes has an extensive range of Mercury repair manuals and online maintenance procedures to suit professional mechanics and DIY car enthusiasts. Our Mercury Cougar repair manual will be able to provide all the help you need, whether you're servicing or repairing your car.
