Use the Freedom Day delay to your advantage and work on your car

fix fogged headlights

Freedom Day is when most Covid-19 restrictions in England are set to be lifted and we can get on with enjoying summer more fully. Sadly, it's been put back to 19 July so more people can be vaccinated to help protect against the now-dominant Delta variant.

Don't despair, though. The delay gives you more time to sort those niggly car jobs you've been putting off for ages – and we've got just the manual to help!

Car Hacks Craig Stewart Haynes

Car Hacks shows you how to use the things around your home to improve your car life. From ensuring you never lose a screw when repairing your car, to spending less on fuel and using cereal boxes to keep your car tidy, this book will open your eyes to the joys of car hacking.

Here's an extract to give you a flavour:

Use toothpaste to make headlights minty fresh

This hack is designed to solve a problem that affects some cars much worse than others: cloudy headlights. On some older cars this manifests itself as a milkiness or yellowing that affects the headlight plastic, and it can be so pronounced that the headlight beam is drastically reduced.

There are headlight cleaning kits out there, and this tip involves embarking on the same process they use – but rather than using costly cleaner, toothpaste comes to the rescue. Toothpaste’s abrasive qualities make it ideal for gently polishing away the cloudiness, leaving clear plastic. Here’s how to do it.
