Want to turn your garage or man-cave into a shrine to the motor car? You should get hold of some vintage, retro and reproduction auto memorabilia.
Here's where you should head if you want to bag some bounty to dress up your space.
01 eBay
With 167 million users worldwide, your first stop on the memorabilia trail should be eBay. Without leaving your home, you can trawl through the auction website's 'Automobilia' subcategory of the Vehicle Parts & Accessories category, and you can set up alerts to your phone or email when new items are added to the list, or if you're searching for a particular item.
02 Car shows and autojumbles
Scrolling through auction sites or classifieds is fine, but there's no substitute for getting out to a car show or autojumble and hitting the stalls.
A good hunt can dig up memorabilia that you didn't know you wanted, and didn't even know existed! There are too many shows in the UK each year to list here, so head to your favourite search engine and look for one in your area.
03 Facebook/Facebook Market
Facebook is a rich home for private groups of like-minded car enthusiasts, and it's within these groups – particularly specific buying/selling groups – that you can find items to trade or buy.
A relatively new addition to Facebook is the Facebook Market which is basically a local classifieds service similar to Gumtree or Craigslist, but you don't need to leave the Facebook ecosystem to buy or sell.
04 Car boot sales
Technology has partially caught up with the car boot sale, but you can still turn up some gems that people have had lying around their loft for generations.
And it doesn't take much effort to discover where your local sale is – why not bring along your unused items too, and you might earn enough money to buy that rare item on your wanted list!
05 Flea markets
Flea markets are becoming as known for upcycled and faux-retro items as they are genuine antiquities, but that's not necessarily a bad thing as long as you know what you're buying. You can find genuine vintage auto memorabilia here, too, if you keep your eyes peeled.
06 Craigslist/Gumtree
Craigslist revolutionized online classifieds in the US by creating an in-built community, and while Gumtree doesn't quite provide the same thing it is another great local classified ad hub where you can find items of memorabilia and more.
Check out their car, auto auto parts and collectables sections, and again you can set up alerts if you are looking for a specific item.
07 Car dealerships/garages
Quite often, car dealerships and auto services will store old adverts, posters, signage and brochures, and won't know what to do with them – this is where you step in!
Pop along to your local showrooms and garages and have a chat with the manager or proprietor, who knows what treasure they might be hoarding, and they may just let you have some great decorative items for free.
